Objectives: This study aims to monitor the terminology used in covering the Iranian nuclear file crisis by international Arab newspaper websites, identify trends in coverage, and reveal the types of journalistic treatments employed in addressing the crisis.
Methodology: This descriptive study relied on the analytical survey method using content analysis. The sample consisted of 783 journalistic items representing diverse content published by the websites of “Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Ahram, and Al-Zaman” during the period from April 6, 2021, to March 15, 2022. A comprehensive census method was used to ensure inclusiveness.
Results: The results indicate that the journalistic discourse of the studied websites was influenced by the political discourse of their countries of origin. Certain terms and expressions used in coverage tended toward political bias. Negative trends dominated the treatment of the crisis across the three websites, while positive trends were limited. This reflects the influence of funding or ownership structures on the formulation and production of journalistic content related to the Iranian nuclear file and on directing publication stances.
Conclusion: The study demonstrates that newspaper ownership and orientations significantly affect the formulation of media discourse regarding regional crises, leading to the dominance of negative trends and the reduction of positive coverage. It highlights the role of editorial policies and media ownership in shaping the positions and orientations of international Arab press toward sensitive regional issues such as the Iranian nuclear file.
